Heaven & Hell - an early piece

Heaven & Hell

I believe in heaven and hell,

            But like most lovers

My definition probably differs

            From the norm.

They apply not to the “Afterlife”

            But to “After you”.

Heaven is in your arms.

            Hell? It is being across town,

Across the street,

Outside your door.

Even on your patio

When you’re not there.

Hell is finding solace in other’s arms

            When yours are closed.

I must admit my faith

            In fate wavers;

I know there is a God,

            But his knowledge of me at times

Seems as unachievable

As your love.

Leaving me knowing, in this life,

            There is a heaven and hell.
